Advertisement is omnipresent in our modern society. It seems wherever we go, such small ads will greet our eyes: the supermarket, the subways, the stop sighs, the walls of public buildings, the garbage cans, and whatsoever. The ads can be about everything from selling mobile phone, renting houses, treating difficult diseases to producing fake diplomats.
(from domestic articles to machinery, from toys to aircrafts.)It’s no exaggeration that we live in the world of advertisement.
The advantage of the ads is self-evident. They provide us with a good collection of goods and service, from which we can make our best choices. For the manufacturer, they can take advantage of the ads to project the characters of their products so as to seize the vision of the consumers and gain them huge profits.
However, we cannot belittle the disadvantages of the ads.
①To many ads do spoil our daily life and waste our time. They interrupt the TV programs, filling our letterbox, and ruin our appreciation of nature in place of interests. People often feel burdened with the ads instead of satisfying with them.
②On the other hand, some of the ads are illegal, spreading false information and planning to treat people who are eager to solve their problems.
It’s high time we took urgent and effective measures to curb this phenomenon.
①Firstly, we should intensify the effects to supervise the ads markets. It’s crucial that we must regulate the ads market strictly to avoid someone’s availing himself or herself of the loophole of the market management.
②Secondly, whoever takes advantage of ads treating consumers should be punished or imprisoned.
③Thirdly, we should educate people to abide by the law and give priorities to honesty and credit. Only when putting these measures into practice, will our society be purified into a paradise for us to live in.
Many people believe that human activity is causing the earth’s temperature to rise. They say that this global warming will have dreadful consequences for our environment, such as drought and flooding.
What should governments do to help prevent global warming? Give reasons for your suggestions.
The earth’s temperature is rapidly changing. As a result there has been a lot of climate change such as heat waves, droughts and floods. Scientists believe that this is the result of human activity, which is polluting the Earth’s atmosphere. This could become a disaster if governments do not act to help prevent global warming. They can act in three ways; by supporting research, by making laws and by keeping the general public informed.
Firstly, governments can support research. For example, they should encourage companies to develop vehicles that cause less pollution. They should also support alternative sources of electricity from wind and water rather than from oil and coal. As well, they should sponsor conferences to discuss the effects of greenhouse gas emissions and possible solutions to the problem.
Secondly, they should make laws that limit the amount of greenhouse gases that companies can emit. Private companies should be rewarded for following these laws. They should also be punished for creating pollution.
Finally, everybody is affected by global warming. Therefore, it is important that governments involve individuals in the problem solving process. For example they should encourage households to save as much energy as possible by using more efficient light bulbs or less hot water. They should also encourage the public to recycle, and this should be compulsory for everyone. Another way of saving energy is by public transport systems. Governments should spend money on public transport to make it as easy as possible for the public to save energy.
In summary, it is clear that there are a lot of things that governments can do to prevent global warming. They should involve companies, support scientists and encourage individuals to protect the planet.

While IQ (Intelligence Quotient) defines how smart you are, EQ (Emotional Quotient) defines how well you use what smarts you have. Peter Salovey, Yale psychologist and author of the term EQ, states that IQ gets you hired, EQ gets you promoted. He also suggests that it’s important to redefine, in our complex world, what it means to be smart. In short, when it comes to “predicting future successes,” brainpower, as measured by IQ and standardized achievement tests, may actually matter less than the character, or EQ of an individual.
Salovey tells of a simple test where four year olds are invited into a room and are given the following instruction: “You can have this marshmallow right now; or if you wait, you can have two marshmallows when I get back.” Then, the researcher leaves. Some kids grab for the treat the second he’s out the door, while others wait for the researcher to return. The results are recorded and Science waits for the kids to grow up. By the time the kids reach high school, significant differences appear between the two groups. The kids who held out for two marshmallows were better adjusted, more popular, more adventurous, more confident, and more dependable than kids in the quick gratification group. The latter group was also more likely to be lonely, more easily frustrated, more stubborn, more likely to buckle under stress, and more likely to shy away from challenges. When both groups took scholastic aptitude tests, the “hold out group” walloped the “quick gratification group by 210 points (the test scores range from a minimum of 200 points to a maximum of 800, with an average for all students of 500 points).
Did you ever wonder what happened to the smartest kid in the class who didn’t end up being successful, or why some of your friends survive the greatest trauma while others crumble over minor issues? Perhaps it is because of differences in a person’s EQ. EQ is not the opposite of IQ, and indeed it is hoped that people have generous quantities of both. But, there is little doubt that people without sufficient EQ will have a hard time surviving in life.
For five generations researchers have been discussing whether it’s possible to raise a person’s IQ. Geneticists say No, while social scientists say Yes. But while brain power researchers continue the debate, social science researchers have concluded that it’s possible to improve a person’s EQ, and in particular, a person’s “people skills,” such as empathy, graciousness, and the ability to “read” a social situation. Social scientists continually cite situations where experiences have modified a person’s EQ. For example, educational researchers indicate that when normal students are introduced to disabled peers, those in the former group dramatically improve their ability to become empathetic and gracious. Additionally, the introduction of behaviourally disturbed students in a class of normal aged peers increases the ability of the latter group to learn to “read” social situations. A more profound improvement is frequently noted in the behaviourally disturbed student as well.
