‘Jewelgirls’ debuts to fight human trafficking

July 21, 2010

Las Vegas–Jewelry manufacturing company Brilliant Stars and the non-profit organization Fair Fund have partnered to debut a new jewelry program that is helping to fight human trafficking.

Through the Jewelgirls program, survivors of human trafficking are given the opportunity to participate in therapeutic jewelry-making and also sell their creations, using revenues to support themselves and the cause. The program’s intent is to give survivors the chance to build new life skills, financial management skills and a pathway towards a future free of poverty and violence, Brilliant Stars said in a media release. engagement rings settings

A third-generation jewelry design house based in New York, Brilliant Stars is providing financial contributions and donating precious gemstones to the program, which is run by Fair Fund. The nonprofit group, based in Washington, D.C., works to prevent the human trafficking of youth worldwide by building community leaderships and providing education and empowerment programs. “As an executive who travels the world, I feel there is nothing more disturbing than to see and hear about children who have been victimized,” Rodney Rahmani, president and chief designer of Brilliant Stars, said in the release. “As a parent of young children, I just couldn’t stand by and ignore this global tragedy any longer. With Jewelgirls, the jewelry industry and consumers, as a whole, can directly help innocent children to put their lives back together and be less susceptible to trafficking altogether.”

Designs from the program made their debut to the industry during JCK Las Vegas. Brilliant Stars and Fair Fund have said they will continue to assist young survivors in selling their creations as a means of producing income for the girls and also bringing attention to the human trafficking cause.
